Fatal flash

Ukyo slashing Yoshitora with a Fatal Flash (Samurai Shodown V).

Fatal Flash, know in Japan simply as Flash (一閃 - Issen), is a recurring super special move that debuted in Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge wherein the player's character performs from side-to-side a super powerful slash attack that can dramatically drain the opponent's Life Gauge. In each game which features this move, only one can be performed per match, and after that the player loses the Rage Gauge. Though powerful, the attack can be blocked.

The conditions to perform a Fatal Flash vary slightly in each Samurai Shodown game, as well its harmful effects, but usually the rule is having a temporary Gauge active, such the Explosion or Meditation Gauge. The effects of the attack are stronger when the Life Gauge is more depleted.

  • Samurai Shodown IV - command: Medium Slash + Strong Slash + Kick Can be performed only when the Explosion Gauge is active. The damage inflicted is inversely proportional to how much Life the player's character has; being near KO will result in critical damage while a Life Gauge that is 50% full or more will result in minimal damage.
  • Samurai Shodown (2019) - command: Light Slash + Medium Slash + Strong Slash Only can be performed when Explosion Gauge is active. This time, the damage is proportional to the amount of the Rage Explosion bar. That is, if the bar is almost full the damage inflicted will be severe (70% of the Life Gauge). Whereas, if the Explosion Gauge's bar is coming to an end the damage inflicted will be around 40%.
