The Active Volcano (活火山 Katsukazan?) is a battle stage first featured in Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood released in 1995 for Neo Geo and other home platforms by SNK. Hanzo Hattori is the titular character who the player faces during Arcade mode, or when a New Challenger chooses him in Versus mode. In Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge there is a remake of this stage.
Description[]
As the name suggest, the battle takes place with a volcanic system. The ground is covered by extrusive rock, and there are many volcanic rocks at all surroundings. The sky can be seen cloudy. Sometimes the stage suffers a shake because the volcanic activity, then the illumination starts to blink, finally steam eruptions begins to appears in many sectors of the stage. During the second round a flock of crows appears overflying the stage.
During the last moments of the match the ground retains his grey color, and all background disappears except a black vacuum; sky turns red with an animation that flows from bottom to top. Cawing crows are still overflying the stage, dropping black feathers.

This stage's musical theme is a Min'yo piece called "Prison" (獄 Goku).
