Kokain (枯華院 kokain?, can be translated as House of the Dried Flower) is a battle stage found in Samurai Shodown III. Gaira Caffeine is the character who faces the player during Arcade Mode, or when a new challenger chooses him in Versus mode. The original version of this stage can be found in Samurai Shodown II and was recycled for Samurai Shodown V. The japanese name is a reference to a drug just like the first name of Gaira's teacher (Nicotine).

Description[]

The location of this place seems to be in the middle of a hidden forest. The characters moves along a dirt road, while in the center stage there is a ascending stone staircase. This staircase is followed at the sides by traditional stone lanterns called Tōrō (灯籠 literally light basket, light tower), and leads to the entrance of a temple upstage. Around the staircase there are many tree trunks and green vegetation on the ground. Only during the first round most of the background cannot be seen because the mist. From the second to third round the mist dissipates and now the background is clear.

During the climatic moment of the match the stage becomes dark and is embraced by flames. One big flame appears randomly moving in the near front. In the distance barely can be seen demonic imaginary.

Musical themes[]

This stage has an ambient piece called "Temple" (寺 Tera), where predominate the sounds of insects, the hit of a Japanese bell (called Bonshō 梵鐘 lit. Buddhist bell), and the chants of children monks.
